Day 1 of My 10 Day Reboot !

Sunday, September 1, 2013 –

Today is the beginning of my 10 day reboot.  What is a reboot?  It is the process of restarting my body much like you’d restart your computer.

For the next 10 days I will drink pure vegetable and fruit juices in addition to eating salads and vegetable entrees.  Doing this will accomplish two things:  1) Detox my body of toxins since I will only be consuming “living” foods and 2) Give my body time to rest since it won’t be busy digesting enriched flours, processed sugars and fast food.

I’ve done this process before and in a matter of about 90 days, I was able to bring my LDL cholesterol and blood pressure numbers down by half.  I continued eating living foods and juicing in the mornings and with that was able to lose 32 pounds in about 2 months time.

So….Why did I stop?

Same reason we all stop…..One day we wake up and say, “I’m tired…I don’t want to do that today…”  After too many days like that, you fall back into your old habits and before you know it, McDonald’s dollar menu is now your new breakfast friend.  Not good….

I was a skinny child who at about age 10 started gaining weight.  I am now a 46 year old woman who, like many Americans, is morbidly obese.

In 2012, I watched Joe Cross’ documentary, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” and it blew me away.   I not only saw Joe drop 100 pounds in 60 days by juicing, I saw another man who was stuck in life and in his weight be transformed over a period of a year.  He changed his life and in the process changed other people’s lives.  (You can watch the same documentary here: http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/)

So, back then as I did this morning, I got up and dusted off my Vitamix.  Most people use a Breville Juicer or some other type, but I prefer the Vitamix because it does so much more than just juice.  I can make my “morning cocktail” and soups, peanut butter, hummus, sorbets…The list goes on.  Here’s my recipe for the “Morning Cocktail”

Morning Cocktail

Yields 64 ounces of green juice

4 cups of water

Granulated Garlic to taste

Cayenne Pepper to taste

2 tablespoons of Flax Seed

1 Cucumber or 2 Kirby Cucumbers

1 Carrot

2 Celery Stalks

1 Bunch of Cilantro

3 Roma Tomatoes

Agreed, when it’s blended, it looks green and awful, but it tastes kinda like a spicy V8 juice!

It’s taken time to perfect the recipe and in the end, if this is something that you want to do, it’s all about your taste!  You don’t have to do green juice.  I just prefer it and know how powerful it is. There are fruit juices and even smoothies that you can make which have greens in them…but you wouldn’t know it.  I will have to share some of those later.  You can also look on the internet….Juice recipes are everywhere!

During the next 10 days while I juice, I will be getting extra rest and doing low impact exercise and drinking LOTS OF WATER.  Admittedly, I am not looking forward to the million trips to the bathroom, but what I am looking forward to is feeling better.

Because of my weight, I have knee problems, back problems and just a general feeling of blah….Juicing and eating living foods can and will change all that.  Eating living foods will reduce the inflammation in my body and over time, my body will start to do what it’s capable of…healing itself.

So, will I miss the junk food….Yeah….But it’s temporary.  Eventually, fast food won’t even appeal to me.  It’s just a matter of changing my taste buds.

Tonight’s dinner….Roasted Acorn Squash with Mushroom, Onion and Sage Stuffing.  Good stuff!!

Have a great day!
